Get ready, Britain! The royal wedding is coming THIS WEEKEND, as the nation’s favourite sweethearts tie the knot at Windsor Castle. Will you be tuning in on Saturday to watch Harry and Meghan’s big day unfold? Maybe you’ll be heading to London to catch a glimpse of the action? Or could you really not care less?
Well, whichever camp you happen to be in, you may want to check out our top 6 reasons to be excited about the royal wedding! Even if you’re completely indifferent to the ceremony itself, you might just find something positive to take from the event (maybe skip to numbers 3 and 1)!
6. Good news on the TV for once
Whether you’re a fan of Harry and Meghan or not, at least we get to see some happy news on our telly screens for a change! Surely no one can find anything negative to say about a young couple celebrating their love on the happiest day of their lives? OK, sure, they will. But it makes a nice change from the usual doom and gloom.
5. Ridiculous hats wherever you look
One thing that’s always fun about big royal occasions is comedy hat spotting. There’s sure to be some ridiculous headwear on display throughout the day, so why not turn it into a game? Whoever can spot the daftest headdress wins. What do they win? Well, how about not having to wear that hat? If you’re so inclined, you could even turn it into a drinking game!*
4. Princess Charlotte & Prince George being adorable
Even if you don’t much care for the adult members of the royal family, you can’t deny that little Prince George and Princess Charlotte are pretty cute. They’ll be on top form on Harry and Meghan’s wedding day, dressed up in their best outfits and playing an important part in the ceremony as flower girl and page boy. They should have a new little brother or sister by then too, so we might get a glimpse of the royal baby as well!
3. Great excuse for a street party
If nothing else, the royal wedding is a perfect excuse for a party! If you like your neighbours, why not throw a street party? Or just invite your friends and family over for a right royal shindig. Whether you care about the wedding or not, it’s still a pretty historic occasion that people will be talking about for years to come. So, when people ask you where you were that day, you’ll be able to tell them you had the time of your life with your nearest and dearest.
2. We may see a Spice Girls performance
We said there’d be something for everyone! We’ve heard rumours that the Spice Girls may be performing on the royal wedding day, so if that music to your ears, make sure you tune in! It’s been confirmed that all five members are attending the wedding, but we’re still waiting for the official announcement that they’ll be taking to the stage. What will they sing? Surely ‘2 Become 1’ has to be on the cards? We’d LOVE to see The Queen bopping along in the background!
1. Pub opening hours will be extended!
And finally, now for something everyone can get behind! Well, except perhaps for bar staff. We’re not getting an extra day off work to celebrate the royal wedding, but we WILL get to enjoy longer pub opening hours. The Home Office has relaxed the rules about pub opening hours on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th May, allowing bars to keep serving until 1am! Now if that’s not a reason to celebrate, we don’t know what is.
