So if you’re thinking of joining Cara on her next adventure, take a peek at her diary and see if you think you’re made of tough enough stuff!
05:30 Dear Diary: early start today! Up at sunrise to start hacking our way through the jungle, looking for the long-lost ruins left behind by the ancient civilisation that once ruled these lands. Can the stories really be true? They tell of riches beyond belief, hidden somewhere inside the tomb of the tribe’s final king. They also say that’s not all that waits for us there, but that’s just superstitious rubbish, right?
10:15 Phew, thought I was a goner for a minute there! This jungle is home to some of the world’s deadliest snakes, and the trouble is, they look exactly like tree roots – only a bit more bitey. Pro tip: look out for those bright red eyes and watch your step, because if you get bit, it’s probably already too late. Luckily for me, I had my wild animal expert, Dr Zoolittle, on the team to talk the snake into giving me a pass.
11:30 This has to be the place! Moss-covered ruins surrounded by bones and skulls: check. Scary-looking statues: check. Overwhelming feeling of impending doom: check. Guess I’d better take a closer look then! What could possibly go wrong?
11:35 Oh, shoot. Well, this could go wrong. Turns out that ancient tribe were pretty hot on setting booby traps, and I walked right into this one. Rookie mistake! Oh well, luckily for me, one of the jungle’s loin-cloth-clad residents was passing by and saw me stuck in a net, swinging from the treetops. Turns out he’s pretty handy with those hanging vines, so he swung in and set me free. Thanks a lot, mysterious stranger!
12:00 Nothin’ yet! Just a load of old rocks and room after room filled with dust, debris and spiders. I’m not leaving here empty-handed so I’ll have to keep searching.
13:30 I’ve found something! There’s some sort of wheel carved into the wall with a skull in the centre. Do I dare to pull the lever and see what happens next? There’s no way I’m quitting now after coming this far. See you on the other side… I hope.
14:00 It took a few spins, but I’m in! It’s even better than I ever imagined! The wheel was hiding a treasure chamber stacked to the ceiling with gold and dotted with priceless crystal skulls. Sure, there’s a chance that it could be just a little bit cursed, but how bad could it be? I’m gonna need to some help to gather up all of this gold! I’ll take what I can now and come back with a crew for the rest…
16:30 Well, that escalated quickly. So, I bagged up as much gold as I could carry and got ready to leave the temple. Then I stopped when I saw one of those gorgeous green crystal skulls shining up at me. I just had to have one… so I picked one up and stepped outside the treasure chamber, and BAM! The entire temple started to collapse around me!
I ran for my life as rocks crashed down just inches away! Daylight was in sight, but I still wasn’t sure I’d make it out alive. Just seconds after I dived out into the relative safety of the jungle, an enormous boulder fell and blocked the entrance to the tomb. Close. Call.
17:00 So, the temple might be a no-go zone for now, at least until the dust settles and the old curse thing calms down a bit. Still, a rucksack full of riches and one priceless crystal skull – not a bad day’s work! Now it’s time to start the five-hour trek back to camp before doing it all again tomorrow.
Still think you got what it takes? Join me sometime and we’ll see what you’re really made of!
